TST: Streamlining Critical Response for First Responders

At CorrMed, we believe that the best emergency response equipment is designed by those who use it, for those who need it most. Developed with direct input from Durham Constabulary, the new pouch facilitates Ten Second Triage (TST) alongside critical CAT Haem (catastrophic haemorrhage) equipment.

What is TST and Why Was This Pouch Developed?

The Ten Second Triage (TST) system was introduced following the lessons learnt from the Manchester Arena attack. In high-casualty incidents, TST allows responders to instantly assess and categorise patients based on injury severity. This colour-coded system (red, yellow, silver, and green) ensures that treatment is prioritised correctly, even in chaotic environments.

The Challenges of Carrying Multiple Kits in High-Pressure Situations

Since its adoption, TST has become standard protocol across Police, Fire, and First Responder teams, meaning these professionals must always have TST kit readily available. Until now, responders had to carry separate storage solutions for TST and Cat Haem kit. This meant additional time spent retrieving the necessary tools and a greater risk of forgetting key equipment.

How Frontline Insights Develop Bags That Work

Recognising the need for enhanced efficiency, CorrMed, in collaboration with Durham Constabulary, has developed the CAT Haem & TST Pouch - a refined addition to our police bag range that ensures responders can act swiftly and decisively in high-pressure situations.

During our design process, officers provided critical feedback on the limitations of existing storage solutions, highlighting the need for a more streamlined, intuitive system. With our integrated design, responders now have everything in one place, enabling them to deliver quicker, more effective patient care while maintaining focus on the situation at hand. This not only prevents kit explosions but also removes the need to juggle multiple pieces of kit - something no responder wants to deal with in high-pressure, fast-moving situations.

How the CAT Haem & TST Pouch Enhances Response Efficiency

This pouch has been designed to optimise workflow in high-pressure situations. Key features include:

  • Compatible Design – Easy access from the front of the Tac Med Response Bag ensures rapid deployment when every second is crucial.

  • Integrated Storage for TST Equipment – Keeps snap bands, tags, and triage cards securely in one place.

  • Space for CAT Haem Kit – Allows essential haemorrhage control tools to be accessed instantly, removing the need to rummage inside a deep pouch when looking for a specific piece of kit.

  • Compact, Durable, and Organised – Reduces cognitive overload and increases response speed.

By ensuring everything is within reach, responders can assess, triage, and treat casualties without delays, supporting both individual efficiency and overall emergency response effectiveness.

The CAT Haem & TST Pouch can be purchased as part of the Tac Med Response Bag or as an individual unit, allowing teams to customise their setup based on their specific operational needs.

By listening to frontline professionals and adapting designs based on real-world demands, CorrMed continues to develop solutions that improve efficiency, organisation, and response times in life-or-death situations.
