Updated: Sep 30, 2020

Product Reviewed and Clinical input for new designs provided by Karen Guest-Humphries, Clinical Lead, Childhood Immunisation Team: County Durham, Darlington and Teesside, Harrogate & District Foundation Trust

The Childhood Immunisation service delivers the school aged immunisation programme in educational settings and community clinics. This includes: Flu, HPV, Men ACWY, DTP and MMR vaccinations. The team also runs the Butterfly service which offers immunisations in a clinic setting for those children who cannot have their immunisations in school due to needle phobia, anxiety etc

The team works with 0-19 Health Visiting and School Nursing teams in a wide geography

including:

  • County Durham

  • Darlington

  • Hartlepool

  • Stockton-on-Tees

  • Middlesbrough

  • Guisborough and Redcar

They cover a large geographical footprint with a diverse population, including major cities, rural villages, remote hill farms and will visit schools, care homes, etc

Headed up by Clinical Lead, Karen Guest-Humphries, the team consists of 25 nurses and 3 administrators

In order to provide an efficient and safe service, the team needed safe transportation of their medical equipment and supplies ensuring that infection control procedures were adhered to.

Searching the market, the team found many bags, but very few were wipe clean, built with sturdy material and designed for ease of carrying, or had compartments that were suitable to ensure that supplies were easily organised.

The CorrMed bags were eventually found. The company came to visit, thus the tools could be handled and physically tried out prior to committing, giving the team the confidence they were choosing the right solution for them. This visit was most useful as the team were able to pack the bag with all the supplies they needed for an immunisation session ensuring that the bag had the capacity and functionality that was required.

The smart presentation, infection control properties and well-designed ergonomics of the bags provided the team with what they needed

• Vaccines and equipment were safely transported according to cold chain protocol

• Pre-packed and ‘ready to go’ dedicated bags lead to a more efficient service

• Logical internal bag design ensures easier to find required kit

• Wipe clean material supports infection control compliance

• Compact, lightweight and well balanced improves handling
