The team at Barnsley Community Services are now fully equipped with brand new community kit bags, which will improve efficiencies for patient care. The kit bags include a large boot bag, which is filled with individual, coloured pouches. These can then be removed and taken into patients’ homes with the home visit bag. Each pouch can be labelled and filled with appropriate equipment and dressings. This makes it much easier for the community nursing teams to grab what they need and support the patient in their home.
The bags were designed and manufactured by CorrMed, and had input from the frontline teams at the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Practice development nurse Ann Midgley said: “We are really pleased with the new kit bags. They look really professional and send out a positive image to patients and their families.”
Community nursing teams have long suffered with not being able to find the right equipment quickly and easily due to an array of bags and boxes filling a nurses’ car boot. Barnsley Community Services identified the need for change and began discussions with CorrMed.
The new community nursing bags have been provided to district nursing teams, the tissue viability team, the continence team, matrons, the Macmilian team and the BREATHE team to effectively support them and their patients whilst out in the community.
The bags are having a positive effect on the teams, and helping to boost staff morale, with nurses commenting:
“I feel more organised using the new system. I know what I have got and what I need to get for my visits that day.”
“As the bags are so much easier to keep my equipment together and remove from my car, I have got my car boot back for the days I’m not working.”
“Lots of patients have commented saying I look professional.”
